Club is planning a few more Open Days in the coming months to attract more locals to the sport of Outrigger Canoeing. Expect to see more and the Committee will need help from existing members.
Cook Islands - Vaka Eiva (November 19-26) :-
Two members of our club made the trek to Cooks Islands for the 2011 Vaka Eiva event. Pete Watson & Ron Gaschk joined a variety of paddlers from across NSW & QLD to form the 2011 Rogz for Dogz team (11 paddlers).
Comptetion was again fierce with clubs competing from Australia (Crown Beach Kings), NZ, Cananda and lots of the locals.
From the opening ceremony through to closing of event, it's clear that Outrigger Canoeing is part of the Cook Islands culture - and not just conisdered a sport.
Back at racing, the conditions varied from day to day with strong winds pushing up some big swell.
This was the first time this Rogz for Dogz crew paddled together so achieving a 2nd in the Open Mixed 12km Iron and 2nd in the Open Mixed 36km Round Raro Changes race was a fabulous effort.
For those thinking of Vaka Eiva 2012,,,you've gotta do it.
