Pittwater Outrigger Racing Club was founded in 1995 and until January 1997 boasted only 6 female members, though the size of the club did not seem to hamper early success, and the club grew both in numbers and stature.
Recently due to growing popularity of the sport and an awareness campaign undertaken by the club, the membership has expanded. As of October 2008 we have over 40 active members, with 3 women’s crews and 2 men’s crews as well as fledgling junior squad. The ages range from 12 to 70, with our oldest paddler, Jim still steering our Number 1 men’s boat.
As well as competing in OC6 Regattas, we have a number of members who regularly train and race OC1 and OC2.
From our humble beginnings, we have now grown to become competitive on a state and national basis. Our results last year and so far this year are a positive indication of the hard work, commitment and resolve of the club members.
